A riverside afternoon can be a welcome break from sightseeing. This Han River picnic guide helps first-time visitors choose a park, plan food and bring what they need with park locations, food options and packing notes.

The Han River is long, and its parks are separate destinations. Choose the park nearest your day’s route, then check its access notices and food options.
Which Han River Park Should You Choose?
Ttukseom: our suggested option after Seongsu and Seoul Forest. Use the full park name in your route app and check access via Jayang Station on Line 7. Ttukseom Station on Line 2 is a different stop. See the official Ttukseom park guide.
Yeouido: compare this option when your day is already centered on Yeouido or a river-cruise departure there. Confirm the cruise’s actual meeting point separately; a park visit does not include a boat ticket.
Banpo: consider it when your route is closer to the southern side of the river. If a fountain display is your reason for visiting, check the current operating notice and weather conditions first. Do not build dinner around an assumed show time.
Seoul’s official river overview provides context for the different park areas. Compare the journey from your hotel and the return route before deciding.

| Your picnic destination | Korean search term | What to check before travelling |
|---|---|---|
| Ttukseom Hangang Park | 뚝섬한강공원 | Use Jayang Station (자양역) on Line 7 as your station search. |
| Yeouido Hangang Park | 여의도한강공원 | Line 5, Yeouinaru Station (여의나루역), Exits 2 or 3. Follow the riverside-park signs toward the waterfront; Visit Seoul lists about 4 minutes on foot. Park map search · Seoul city access guide (Korean). |
| Banpo Hangang Park | 반포한강공원 | Lines 3, 7 or 9, Express Bus Terminal Station (고속터미널역), Exit 8-1 or 8-2. Follow the pedestrian route toward Banpo Bridge (반포대교); Seoul city lists about 15 minutes on foot. An alternative is Sinbanpo Station (신반포역), Line 9, Exit 1, via Banpo Underpass (반포나들목), also about 15 minutes. Park map search · Seoul city access guide (Korean). |
For Ttukseom, the official Visit Seoul page lists Jayang Station Exit 2. Check current station signs and access notices on the day; an event or closure may change the usable approach. Ttukseom Station on Line 2 is a separate station, so do not select it simply because its English name matches the park.
Before leaving your accommodation, save four pins: the park entry you will use, a nearby food shop, a public toilet and your return station. Useful Korean map searches are 편의점 (convenience store) and 공중화장실 (public toilet). Confirm the results belong to your chosen park area rather than the opposite riverbank.
On arrival, locate the toilet and food outlet before choosing a sitting spot. Look for a permitted resting area with a stable surface and keep paths clear. If there is no suitable cooker or place to sit, buy takeaway food that needs no preparation. If weather deteriorates, switch to a meal near your return station; save that alternative before your phone battery runs low.
For food preparation and Korean questions to show staff, use our Korean convenience-store guide. For the journey, follow our Seoul subway guide. Keep hot noodles at a suitable eating surface rather than carrying an open bowl while searching for a picnic spot.
A Flexible Three-Hour Picnic Plan
Allow the first 30 minutes to arrive, find an available food outlet and choose a place to sit. Spend the next hour eating and resting, then leave time for a short walk and packing up. These are suggested durations, not attraction opening hours.
Avoid arriving hungry with no backup. A shop may be busy, a seating area may be full and weather can change. Check what is open near the entrance you intend to use.
How to Enjoy Convenience-Store Ramyeon
Buy a product intended for the cooker available at that store and follow the machine instructions. Some outlets may not have a cooker, may restrict its use or may require an additional container. Ask before purchasing.
Carry hot food carefully and use a stable designated surface. Do not put a hot container directly on a mat beside someone who might knock it over. Look for bins and disposal instructions before leaving; do not pour broth on the grass or into the river.
Ramyeon and snacks can be enough for a light meal. If you want a larger meal, purchase it before settling down. Delivery can require local payment, a working phone number and a specific collection point, so it is not a dependable first-visit default.
What to Bring
Bring a small mat or choose public seating, water, tissues, a bag for your rubbish, a charged phone and a light layer. Add sun protection or an umbrella according to the forecast. Keep the bag small enough for public transport.
Mat rental, bicycles and seasonal facilities are optional. Confirm their availability and charges before depending on them. Leave space for pedestrians and cyclists and follow marked paths.
Weather and Budget
Check wind, rain, temperature and park-access notices on the day. If conditions are poor, replace the picnic with a meal near your accommodation. Do not enter a closed or flooded section for a photograph.
Your spending depends on food, transport and rentals. Set a food allowance before shopping and keep rental or cruise charges separate. This guide does not quote live store prices.
Common Questions
Can I picnic at any river location? Choose a permitted public park area and follow local signs. Riverbanks, cycle routes and restricted sections are not interchangeable.
Should I combine a picnic with a cruise? Only if the departure point and timetable fit comfortably. A relaxed picnic can be a complete afternoon by itself.
