Your Seoul travel budget depends more on your accommodation and daily choices than on the number of sights you visit. This guide shows how to calculate a three-day trip without confusing planning allowances with live prices.
The example covers three full sightseeing days. Flights, airport transport, shopping and accommodation are handled separately. A three-day trip can include two or three hotel nights, so count the nights you actually need.
A Three-Day Food and Local-Transport Budget
For one adult, an editorial starting allowance is ₩30,000–₩50,000 a day for food, coffee and snacks, plus ₩6,000–₩10,000 for local buses and subway rides. Across three days, that is ₩108,000–₩180,000 before lodging and optional activities.
These are suggested allowances, not surveyed average spending or quoted restaurant prices. Frequent taxis, alcohol, premium meals and multiple cafe visits can raise the total.
Our 3-day Seoul itinerary uses the same allowance structure, making it easier to match spending to the daily route.
Transport: Base Fare Is Not the Whole Journey
Seoul’s official fare table lists an adult subway base fare of ₩1,550 with a transport card following the June 28, 2025 change. Distance and certain services can add charges.
Four rides at the base fare would total ₩6,200, but that is only a calculation example. Your actual route may include additional distance, a bus transfer, a higher-fare service or a taxi.
Use our Seoul subway guide to compare transport cards, single tickets and pass coverage. Include the card purchase cost where applicable, and treat refundable ticket deposits separately from the final travel cost.
Accommodation: Calculate Per Room Before Dividing
Compare the same travel dates and room conditions across Myeongdong, Itaewon and Gangnam. Compare the final room price, including taxes and any extra charges.
Multiply the final room price by the number of nights, then divide by the number of travellers sharing that room. Check occupancy limits, extra beds, tax, cancellation terms and whether breakfast is included.
For a purely illustrative example, a room costing ₩120,000 a night for three nights totals ₩360,000. If two adults share it with no extra charges, each person’s share is ₩180,000. This is a calculation example, not a current hotel-rate quotation.
A Worked Example for Two Travellers
Suppose two adults share the illustrative ₩120,000 room for three nights and each budgets ₩40,000 daily for food plus ₩8,000 for local transport.
Per person: accommodation ₩180,000 + food ₩120,000 + local transport ₩24,000 = ₩324,000. The combined total for two people is ₩648,000.
This scenario excludes flights, airport journeys, paid attractions, rentals, shopping and alcohol. Change the inputs to your actual quotes rather than treating this number as the price of a Seoul holiday.
Choose Optional Activities Separately
Keep a separate list for palace admission, observatory tickets, a river cruise, hanbok rental, exhibitions and a jjimjilbang. Add the operator’s current price only when you have chosen the activity.
Do not count an outdoor visit and a paid indoor experience as the same ticket. For example, a Namsan walk, cable-car ride and tower observatory can involve different costs.
If you prefer a lower-cost afternoon, consider our Han River picnic guide. Food, transport and optional rentals still need a budget.
Spend Less Without Making Every Day Difficult
Group nearby places instead of repeatedly crossing Seoul. Choose one paid experience that matters to you and keep some neighborhood walks flexible.
A cafe can be a useful rest break, but buying drinks at several stops each day adds up. If breakfast is included at your hotel, make use of it; if it costs extra, compare the price with nearby options.
Saving on accommodation is useful only when the location and facilities still suit the trip. Add likely taxi costs before choosing a distant hotel purely on its room price.
Costs That Are Easy to Miss
Check airport transport, late-night taxi journeys, card purchase fees, luggage storage, mobile data, bank currency-conversion charges and paid extras at your hotel. Shopping and souvenirs should have their own limit.
Restaurant minimum orders, extra dishes and service-specific fees can affect the bill. Confirm the price and what is included before ordering or booking.
Set aside a little extra for an unexpected taxi ride, a change of route or other unplanned costs.
How to Track Spending During the Trip
Record accommodation, food, local transport, activities and shopping separately. At the end of each day, compare the remaining allowance with the next day’s plan.
If you spend more on a special dinner, choose a simpler next meal rather than cutting essential transport or leaving yourself without food. A budget should support the trip, not make it stressful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this budget per person? Food and local-transport allowances are per adult. Hotel rates are usually per room, so divide them only after checking the permitted occupancy and extra charges.
Does it include arrival and departure? No. Add airport transport and any meals or hotel nights outside the three sightseeing days.
Is Seoul cheap or expensive? That depends on your hotel, meals and activities. Comparing your actual choices is more useful than a single citywide label.
Can I use this for a family? Adapt the room arrangement, ages, fare eligibility and meals. Do not multiply an adult budget without checking the family’s actual needs.
